[ȓə 'gruːp], informelle Vereinigung englischer Autoren, 1955 von Philip Dennis Hobsbaum (* 1932) gegründet, die im kritischen Dialog junge Talente förderte und mit harter, radikaler Dichtung (»A Group anthology«, 1963) eine Gegenposition zu der Lyrik des Movement bezog. Zu den Hauptvertretern gehören Edward Lucie-Smith (* 1933), George MacBeth (* 1932, ✝ 1992), P. Porter, P. W. Redgrove, später auch Brian Stanley Johnson (* 1928). The G. reorganisierte sich 1965 als »Writers' Workshop«.
